Cause of WWII - Lessons learned from the issues between Nazi Germany and Poland and from the issues between King Ahab and Naboth

Sometimes a story has a moral to be learned that another story's development confirms

I would like to relate the history of the 1 Kings 21 biblical account of Naboth's vineyard being coveted by King Ahab and show how its moral can apply to the account of prewar negotiations between Poland and Nazi Germany concerning the Polish Corridor before Nazi Germany invaded on September 1, 1939.

Beginning of the Biblical Account

1And it came to pass after these things, that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.
And Naboth said to Ahab, The Lord forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.
And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

Analysis of Beginning of Biblical Account's Moral

According to the beginning of this account, Naboth had a vineyard that he inherited from his family, his forefathers and he was totally entitled to enjoy it and use it as he pleased.  The property had been in his family for generations and it should have remained his and he should have been left in peace to enjoy it.

Unfortunately, he wound up having a covetous next door neighbor who now wanted it and this next door neighbor was in a powerful position to do something about his refusal: the guy, Ahab, was king of the whole country who was married to psychopathic and probably demonic wife Jezebel.

This king was willing to pay off Naboth well for the property. Yes, it's understandable that Naboth would want to keep the vineyard inherited if only for sentimental value.  However, entitled as he was to keep the property, angering the powerful king was unwise and his wife, Jezebel did something about him for that refusal.

She set up poor ole Naboth to be celebrated at a banquet and then she had him framed for offending the King, which was a capital offense. She ended up getting this poor, innocent neighbor stoned to death and the vineyard was confiscated and given to the king by right.

I remember having attended a pastoral message given by my former pastor, David Stocker, Sr. at my church, Central Bible Assemblies of God Church in Miami, Florida. The pastor did bring up the faulty decision made by Naboth and the cost of that decision. Moreover, the pastor added that it is very likely that all of Naboth's relatives and descendants were killed to ensure that there would be no one to lay claim to that vineyard.

So, added the Pastor, Naboth made a decision to exercise his right to hang on to his inheritance but look at the cost paid, his and the lives of all his family members at the hands of Jezebel.

The pastor then added an alternative reply that could have spared Naboth his own life and the lives of his kin. He could have asked the King to give him another estate or vineyard as far away from the King as he could get so that the King would simply forget about him.

According to the story in the Bible, Jezebel had not been present when King Ahab met with Naboth and tried to negotiate the vineyard. She found out about it later that day.

Climax of the Biblical Account of King Ahab with Jezebel Destroying Naboth to Seize his Vineyard

But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread?
And he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.
And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.
So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth.
And she wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people:
10 And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.
11 And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them.
12 They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.
14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and is dead.
15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.
16 And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

NextLet's see this Biblical account's moral applies to the issue between Nazi Germany and Poland

The Nazi Foreign Minister Joaquim von Ribbentrop had met with Polish Ambassador to Germany, Joseph Lipski about recovering Danzig. Danzig was a mostly German city in the area of the Polish Corridor which Germany wanted back and which Ribbentrop was now demanding on Hitler's behalf. Moreover, Ribbentrop also mentioned that Poland had acquired a strip of Czech territory when Nazi Germany took over that entire country.

Furthermore, as well as recovering Danzig, Germany wanted to build a double line railway line across the Polish Corridor and a superhighway as well.

Then, Nazi Germany wanted Poland to sign an Anti Comintern Agreement with Nazi Germany as well.

Ribbentrop didn't demand an answer right away. He suggested to the ambassador that he discuss the proposals with Polish Foreign Minister Beck. The ambassador was hesitant and pessimistic that his government would oblige. He took the proposals to his Foreign Minister and of course, the answer was no.

William L. Shirer (1990). The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (3rd Edition ed.). New York: Simon & Ag Schuster, pg 407.

This conflicting situation between Nazi Germany and Poland continued until Germany finally invaded Poland on September 1, 1939.  Two days later, Great Britain and France declared war on Nazi Germany.

So far, nothing has been revealed that most history books have not already brought up ad nauseum

Now, in order to fully reveal how and why King Ahab and Naboth's account can apply to the story of the conflict between Nazi Germany and Poland, it's necessary to go to another historical source, Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley for a deeper look at the scene behind the scenes in the relationship between Nazi Germany and Poland.

Moreover, in the Quigley book, Adolf Hitler delivered a speech about Poland to his armed forces on May 23, 1939 and admitted that his intentions really didn't center around Danzig at all.

Text of the Treacherous and Secret Hitler Speech

"Danzig is not the subject of this dispute at all. It is a question of expanding
our living space in the East and of securing our food supplies, and the settlement
of the Baltic problems. Food supplies can be expected only from thinly populated
areas. Over and above the natural fertility, thoroughgoing German exploitation
will increase production enormously. There is no other possibility in Europe.
Beware of gifts of colonial territory. These do not solve the food problem.
Remember — blockade. If fate brings us into conflict with the West, possession
of extensive areas in the East will be advantageous. We shall be able to expect
excellent harvests even less in wartime than in time of
peace. The population of these non-German areas will perform no military service
and will be available as a source of labor. The Polish problem is inseparable from conflict
with the West.... Poland sees danger in a German victory in the West and will
attempt to rob us of a victory there. There is, therefore, no question of sparing
Poland, and we are left with the decision: To attack Poland at the first suitable
opportunity. We cannot expect a repetition of the Czech affair. There will be war.
Our job is to isolate Poland. The success of this isolation will be the decisive
factor. Therefore, the Fuhrer must reserve the decision to give the final order to attack.

There must be no simultaneous conflict with the Western Powers [France and England]
.... If there were an alliance of France, England, and Russia,
I would have to attack England and France with a few annihilating blows. I doubt
the possibility of a peaceful settlement with England. We must prepare ourselves
for the conflict. England sees in our development the foundation of a hegemony
which would weaken England. England is therefore our enemy, and the conflict with
England will be a life-and-death struggle."

Carroll Quigley,(1966). Tragedy and Hope: A History of the World in Our Time. New York: The Macmillan Company, pg. 649.

Analysis of the Hitler Speech

Do you see what I am getting at, my dear reader? Hitler
wanted Poland to do exactly what it did. He wanted Poland
to reject Germany's demands. He wanted Poland to say no to
to him in order to have an excuse to invade that country.

Had Poland acquiesced and gone along with Germany,
given Germany the city of Danzig, shared the Polish
Corridor with Germany, and signed an Anti Commintern
Pact with Germany, then Stalin would have been
deprived of Eastern Europe, and Hitler would have
been deprived of his desired war and of Lebensraum.

However principled was Poland's refusal to give in
Hitler, it committed national suicide. Warsaw was
destroyed. The Holocaust expanded, the world war
made certain.

I liken Poland to Naboth, Hitler to both King Ahab
to Jezebel. In the same way that Naboth insisted on
keeping his inherited vineyard despite the power of
the King to destroy him physically and still take his
property, Poland insisted on saying no to Hitler his
insistence on taking Danzig and sharing the Polish Cor-
ridor. Hitler admitted that he wanted all of Poland!
Danzig was only an excuse.

By having said yes, Poland could have saved itself.
Too bad, Poland played into Hitler's hands and ended
up losing itself entirely between two mortal enemies:
Germany and Russia. Russia, the country that Poland
could have also saved itself from, ended up signing
an agreement, the Nazi Soviet Pact with Nazi Germany,
and ended up invading Poland and splitting the country.

Miss Hitler 2014 Russian Online Beauty Pageant

This type of event is an atrocity in and of itself. One of the contestant women, according to the anchor of this report, had said something along the line that not loving made you invincible.

When I was a geeky teenager getting my heart broken by girls in school, I may have been susceptible to a BS theory like that,  I hate to admit. But reading what Jesus Christ first and then Paul the Apostle said about love, I am glad to say that I long repudiated that sicko mindset.

These women definitely need to have their heads examined. As a matter of fact, the admiration for the sickest human monster in history is a great indicator of mental illness or worse, spiritual degeneration in a human soul.

Italy: Thoughts about Mussolini

I did some reading on the early career of Benito Mussolini. Specifically, I did reading on the period of his metamorphosis from hard leftwing socialist to reactionary socialist. After all, Mussolini was Hitler's main ally in Europe: the Rome Berlin Axis.

What did I learn?  Benito Mussolini had a huge ego problem. His father Alessandro Mussolini had been a militant socialist in the Romagna area of Central Italy. There were numerous Socialists there. It was only natural that Benito Mussolini would one himself.

Moreover, he came from an extremely poor background. Even as an adult he was often penniless. He lived with his wife Rachel in a rundown apartment.

He had a strong desire to rule over other people and wanted to acquire nationwide political power in Italy.

Aside from his ego problem, Mussolini was a blatant opportunist. Every major decision that he made resulted from his weighing the costs and benefits of staying put on an issue versus reversing himself. Moreover, he had absolutely no respect for the masses.

Let's take for example, the biggest decision he made that prompted his being expelled from the Socialist Party:

He had championed a major Socialist civil cause in Italy and the Socialist Party then awarded him with the editorship of Socialist Party newspaper Avanti. For a long while, he expanded the circulation of that newspaper greatly and brought in converts to the Italian Socialist bandwagon.

Moreover, while he had been a hard left wing Socialist agitator he had been in trouble with the law to the point of being arrested and convicted of being a misfit and causing trouble. So Mussolini, when he reached the rewarded position of managing editor of Avanti, was a tried and true Socialist.

Then came World War I and at first he opposed Italy's entry into that war - with passion. He grew in popularity among his fellow Socialists. Then what happened?

He switched sides. He published an editorial that favored Italy's entry into the First World War. So then, why the turnaround?

He decided that he would be left behind in Italian politics if he maintained his antiwar position. He understood that the trend in favor of Italy entering the war on the Allied side was gaining traction. So he abandoned his original position and shocked the Socialists.

Moreover, he had another newspaper that also championed the entry into the war.  When fellow Socialists found out that Mussolini's name was on the masthead of this other newspaper, Populo di Italia, he was not only sacked from Avanti, but he was also expelled outright from being having been a member of the Italian Socialist Party.

Then he also volunteered to enlist at the rank of private in the Italian Army fighting in the Alps against the Austrians whom he greatly hated.  On account of his journalistic experience and from having been an editor, Mussolini was in a position to select a more prestigious Army commission.

But no, he chose to serve as a mere infantryman.  And he apparently suffered a major wound when a mortar he was loading, exploded and seriously wounded him. According to the story, he required numerous operations.  He was honorably discharged.

Upon discharge, he returned to Milan where he now could return to working on Populo de Italia. What transpired now was a major rift with Italy's wartime allies, Great Britain and France. Italy's Prime Minister at the end of World War I, had signed a secret treaty in London, as a condition for entering Italy into the war, that Italy would be rewarded with territories to be added.

Upon the end of the war, the Allies reneged on their promise on account of President Wilson's leadership to give Italy her just reward.  The Italian nation was already in debt and politically, this turn of events put the Italian government in deep trouble with the population.

So, now Mussolini begins to see that events in Italy were getting worse and this situation presented him with an opportunity. He began to agitate for those territories.  He also began to associate with Italian politicians who now were also sounding off.  Next, the population was going left in a big way. There would now be strikes. There would be great disorder throughout.

Mussolini now began to court businesses to back him financially as he now would advocate for their interests, especially since he was once a major leftist in Italian politics.  They began to subsidize him. He also began agitating for war veterans to join him. A new movement was created: fascism. There would now be a Fascist Party as well.

Thus, from what I read, Mussolini's entire career from left to then right was all based on what he thought would be opportunity for him to rise politically.  What side was Mussolini?  He was on his own side, looking out for Number One: himself.  Mussolini, according to the S. William Halperin, had believed in Socialism as his political creed but when it became expedient to dump it, he dumped it.

Moreover, according to the book by Robert Leckie, Mussolini used his fascist goon squads to crack the heads of Socialists and hounded them mercilessly. The very same party he had been part of and joined to the hip of, when he decided to go right, he had that party's leaders and members beaten to the pulp. So, it can be said that Mussolini was really just an opportunist testing to see what direction the winds blew toward, and acted accordingly.

Poland - History: What's up with the Polish Youths Loving Hitler and Nazis?

"More than half of Polish youth visit anti-Semitic websites that glorify Hitler and the Nazi era, according to a new poll that has renewed debate about laws governing hate speech and stoked the concerns of Poland’s dwindling Jewish population."1

1. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/11/16/poll-reveals-anti-semitism-in-poland-renews-debate-over-hate-speech-laws/

I was on the verge of abandoning work on the Nazi Blitzkrieg against Poland, the event that sparked the outbreak of World War II. Very close. Then I saw a series of news advisories on Hitler from Google News.  I was blown away when the headline spelled out that Polish teens love Hitler and the Nazis.

THIS TREND IS PURE STOCKHOLM SYDNROME!

These young people in Poland are revering a movement that cost the lives of millions of Poles between 1939 and 1945.  I'm not even talking about Polish Jews here.  I'm talking about Gentile Poles who were slaughtered by the Nazi Germans by the millions. The Jews in Poland slaughtered by the Nazis are to be discussed in a separate treatise called the Holocaust.

What was the attitude of Nazis toward Poles, both Gentile Poles and Jewish Poles?

"The terms Polonophobia, anti-Polonism, antipolonism and anti-Polish sentiment refer to a spectrum of hostile attitudes toward Polish people and culture. These terms apply to racial prejudice against Poles and people of Polish descent, including ethnicity-based discrimination and state-sponsored mistreatment of ethnic Poles and Polish citizens.[1]" 2

2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Polish_sentiment

"In inter-war Germany, anti-Polish feelings ran high.[40] The American historian Gerhard Weinberg observed that for many Germans in the Weimar Republic, Poland was an abomination, whose people were seen as "an East European species of cockroach".[40] Poland was usually described as a Saisonstaat (a state for a season." 3

3.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Polish_sentiment

It's understandable that many of you who read this article question the validity of a source such as Wikipedia so consulting other documents is in order to validate the claims of this treatise.

To you, is submitted the Black Book of Poland, a respected reference that was published in 1948.  This is no Wikipedia, if anything, Wikipedia would have cited it as a source. Please read the following for a true grasp of what mentality the Germans had of the Poles.

"The chief German administrator at L6dz, Herr Ubelhor, former mayor of the city of Mannheim in Southern .Germany, made a speech typical of this attitude on November 1 1, 1939, that is to say, on the day which the Poles celebrate as the anniversary of the recovery of independence. He said inter alia: "We are masters, as masters we must behave. The Pole is a servant (Knecht) and must only serve ... we must inject a dose of iron into our spinal columns and never admit the idea that Poland may ever rise again. ... Be hard." Further on in his speech, which was published in the local official German Lodzer Zeitung (now called the Litzmannstddter Zeitung), Herr Ubelhor announced that the Kokiuszko monu- ment at Lodi had been destroyed as a sign that: "Poland will never return here." The same Herr Ubelhor, in a broadcast speech of December 2, 1939' repeated:

"Every Pole is a servant (Knecht) and every Pole must blindly and unhesitatingly carry out any order given to him by a German."" 4

4.  THE POLISH MINISTRY OF INFORMATION, THE BLACK BOOK OF POLAND,(New York, G.Putnam's Sons, 1948), Pg. 418.

From what this quoted material says, the
Nazi Germans who occupied Poland made no distinction at all between Gentiles and  Jews among the Polish people.

Want more proof?  Fine. I'll provide some more of that.

"A Goebbels Circular

CONTEMPT OFFICIALLY ORDERED

It is very instructive to read the confidential circular issued in
January, 1940, by the propaganda service of the Third Reich,
Kleiner Presse-Informatiotis-Dienst, and containing instructions
for the German newspapers. It was exposed in March, 1940, by the
Polish Ministry of Information in Paris,

This circular proves the extent to which the German Press
is controlled, even in its smallest details, by the authorities of the
Reich. It also reveals the methods employed by German propa-
ganda with reference to Poland. It insists on the suppression of all
mention of news which might instruct public opinion; and above
all of news concerning the expulsion of the Poles from their
ancient territory and the pillage of their homes. The circular also
throws an instructive light on the method by which hatred of the
Polish nation is cultivated.

Here are some important extracts from this secret circular:" 5
5. Ibid, pg. 433.

"Similarly it must be suggested to the reader that
gypsies, Jews and Poles ought to be treated on the same
level. This is the more important since there is no doubt that
for a long time we shall be obliged to employ Poles as agricul-
tural labourers in Germany. It is therefore desirable to build
up a defensive front in the heart of the German nation.

"Further, in drawing up news items, the principle must
be adopted that everything representing civilization and
economic life in the Polish territory is of German origin."6
6. Ibid, pg 434-35.

It seems to me quite self-denigrating for a people to slobber and worship anyone else who looks on one with such utter contempt.

I don't know about you, but I find it repugnant and repulsive to admire anyone who looks upon me as a lower form of humanity. It makes me want to puke to see or learn of someone who came to my country and subject them to such contempt, humiliation, and murder.

They, the Nazis, raped countless Polish women when they took the country. Want some evidence.  I can provide some.  See below:

"Yet the most monstrous crime committed by the Germans on Polish women is
the wholesale arrest of young Polish girls and women to be violated by Germans.
During the war operations and the early months of the occupation, there were
numerous cases of women being raped by German soldiers, cases which will
remain forever unpunished. The German soldiers themselves have told witnesses,
known to us, of incidents in which women were imprisoned, violated, and finally
assassinated with a sadism that horrified even those who told of these crimes." 7

7. Ibid, pg 105

I can provide individual cases if you insist but I don't think you have the stomach to handle something this nasty.  I doubt I would with any ease at all.

So I'll stop here.

If those of you who want to continue admire the Nazis, go ahead and do so. I don't admire anyone who goes to another person's country and abuses the people there. There is nothing to admire there.

I wrote this article out of a sense of repudiation for such self denigration. These young people have no idea what they admire. Strength? Where is the strength there. I find none.

Movie Review: a look at "The Damned" 1969 film dealing with early Nazi Germany, as directed by Luchino Visconti

There was this movie filmed in 1969 and directed by Italian Neo Realism director Luchino Visconti titled The Damned.

The movie covers the period in Nazi Germany beginning with the Burning of the Reichstag and concluding with the aftermath of the Night of the Long Knives.

The main character is a whole family instead of one individual person.  In the case of this movie, it's the Essenbeck Family headed by German baron, Joaquim von Essenbeck, a non-Nazi aristocrat who owns the Essenbeck works: an armaments plant.

In real life, the family that most approached the Essenbecks is the Krupp family.

The inciting event that kicks off the drama is the assassination of Joaquim and the framing of his secretary, Uncle Herbert for that murder.

His daughter in law, widow to Joaquim's late son now has a suitor of fiance who is eager to take over the family firm and that suitor or fiance is the real assassin of the Baron Joaquim.

Standing in his way to satisfy that ambition is the Baron's son Konstantin who is a member of the Nazi SA or the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party.

Konstantin has a son named Gunther who has absolutely no interest in the family business and who is obsessed with being a musician playing the cello and he's not good at it.

Moreover, his father is bitter about his son's interests in the cello and disinterest in the family business.

Then there is Martin, grandson of Joaquim by his daughter in law. He's a sick, pedophile, and cross dresser.

Anyhow the interrelations among the different members and rivals in this dysfunctional family play themselves out in this early Nazi period to the climactic even known as the Night of he Long Knives.

The event in this movie is played out as a massacre as having occurred in the Bad Wiese resort where the SA were gathered for a holiday vacation.

This portrayal was done for dramatic effect and was inaccurate.

Massacre scene portraying of the Night of the Long Knives

In the history, the victims were all arrested and transported to a prison in Munich and they were mostly shot there.

Only Kurt von Schliecher, a former chancellor of Germany, was killed in his own home with his wife. Two more men were also killed away from the prison.

Every other victim with the SA were shot by firing squad inside the prison.

This scene is remarkable in its psychology showing how young Gunther's soul is corrupted spiritually by an SS officer after he realizes that his father, Konstantin, had been one of the victims in the massacre.
